This pattern were a distinct part of Singapore’s, and much of Southeast Asia’s, architectural landscape in the pre-WWII era. These buildings constructed between the 1840s and 1960s were used both as homes and for business. A unique feature is the five-foot way, literally a five-foot pedestrian walkway, outside rows of shophouses.

I stumbled across the tile pattern that inspired this blanket along the five foot way outside a shophouses on Blair Road in Singapore. The shophouses in Blair Road were built in the early 1900s as residences for the well-to-do, and include design elements of Chinese, Malay and European styles. Get it free on Revelry.
